CAS

Liver diseases are frequent and complex. If the patients do not receive the correct therapy, they are at risk of developing severe complications. In this CAS/DAS, one learns by working in an excellent liver unit embedded in a multidisciplinary clinic how to diagnose and treat patients affected by liver disease.

The Certificate of Advanced Studies in Clinical Nutrition is a cooperation between the “Gesellschaft für Klinische Ernährung der Schweiz” (Society for Clinical Nutrition of Switzerland, GESKES) and the Medical Faculty. The main goal is the promotion of evidence-based knowledge and training in Clinical Nutrition for physicians, nutritionists, nurses, pharmacists and nutritional scientists. The teaching program is given in the form of lectures, practical sessions, case studies, self-directed learning, seminars and workshops.

The Certificate of Advanced Studies in Spiritual Care is a cooperation between the Theological Faculty, the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Medical Faculty. The main goal is a reflected and professional handling of spiritual topics.

The CAS in Specialist Palliative Care is a common project of different tertiary institutions, with the two palliative centers in St. Gallen and Bern ensuring practical relevance. In Bern, the Palliative Academia of the University cooperates with the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
The main goal of this advanced training course is to convey palliative care knowledge to physicians, nurses and other health professionals. Students are to be further educated as specialists, allowing them to play a leading or supporting role in specialized palliative care teams.
 

The continuing education program exercise therapy in sports and medicine is offered in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary center for sports and movement medicine of the Insel Hospital (Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für Sport- und Bewegungsmedizin des Inselspitals, IZSB) and provides extra-occupational, practice-oriented and theory-supported further education for movement and sports therapy of disease, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.

The continuing education program in Cardiovascular and Diabetes therapy is offered in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary center for sports and movement medicine of the Insel Hospital (Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für Sport- und Bewegungsmedizin des Inselspitals, IZSB) and provides extra-occupational, practice-oriented and theory-supported further education for movement and sports therapy for cardiovascular and diabetes disease.

The CAS movement and sports therapy for the treatment of mental illness is a cooperation between the Swiss Association for Health-Related Fitness and Sport Therapy (Schweizerischer Verband für Gesundheitssport und Sporttherapie, SVGS) and the Medical Faculty. This course of study provides a theoretical and practical basis for movement and sport therapeutic interventions in patients with mental illness for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation as well as for secondary prophylaxis.

The further education in movement and sports therapy for orthopedics, traumatology and rheumatology is a cooperation between the Swiss Association for Health-Related Fitness and Sport Therapy (Schweizerischer Verband für Gesundheitssport und Sporttherapie, SVGS) and the Medical Faculty. The course of study provides a theoretical and practical basis for movement therapy interventions in patients with orthopedic, rheumatological and traumatological disorders for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation as well as for secondary prophylaxis.

The main objectives of the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging are to equip medical doctors (MDs) with the necessary skills to take a leading role in the AI-driven transformation of medicine. The course program was developed for medical professionals and provides them with the necessary knowledge and skills to translate medical problems into data science problems. By working on an AI project of their own, the participants will know the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence and can thus judge the feasibility and adequacy of proposed AI solutions.

This program is hosted by the medical faculties of the universities of Basel, Zürich and Bern. The main goal is to provide key skills to future public health professionals. The program consists of the “CAS in Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich”, “CAS in Health Promotion and Prevention of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich”, “CAS in Health Systems  of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich” and “CAS in Health Economy and Health Economic Evaluation  of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich”. These 4 CAS lead to the “MAS in Public Health of the Universities of Basel, Bern and Zürich”.

This Certificate of Advanced Studies is coordinated by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine. It conveys leadership competence oriented towards health care organisations and focuses on appropriate forms of the integration of medicine and management.
Along with the “CAS in Clinical Research in Health Care Organisations Unibe” and the “CAS Managing in Health Care Organisations Unibe”, the "CAS Leadership in Health Care Organisations Unibe" leads to the “Master of Advanced Studies in Leading Learning Health Care Organisations, University of Bern”.

The Certificate of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research is coordinated by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine. The main goal is to learn how to plan and conduct clinical research projects and how to communicate their results.
Along with the “CAS Leadership in Health Care Organisations Unibe” and the “CAS Managing in Health Care Organisations Unibe”, the "CAS Clinical Research Unibe"  leads to the “Master of Advanced Studies in Leading Learning Health Care Organisations, University of Bern”.

This Certificate of Advanced Studies is coordinated by the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine. The CAS provides management competence for health care organisations and an understanding of organized health care against the background of the rapid changes in medicine.
Along with the “CAS in Clinical Research in Health Care Organisations Unibe” and the “CAS Leadership in Health Care Organisations Unibe”, this CAS leads to the “Master of Advanced Studies in Leading Learning Health Care Organisations, University of Bern”.

This continuing education program is offered by the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-Insel AG). The sitem-Insel School aims to promote researchers and train executives in the fields of translational medicine and biomedical entrepreneurship. Participants should have an MSc or higher degree in life sciences, medicine, biomedical engineering or similar.

In this CAS program, participants learn the basic aspects of developing a medical product (e.g. regulatory and production engineering aspects).

This continuing education program is offered by the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-Insel AG). The sitem-Insel School aims to promote researchers and train executives in the fields of translational medicine and biomedical entrepreneurship. Participants should have an MSc or higher degree in life sciences, medicine, biomedical engineering or similar.

In this CAS program, participants become familiar with the economic and entrepreneurial aspects of developing a medical product.
