Highlights 2025

The lighthouse is the symbol of the European research alliance ‘ENLIGHT’. Here it stands in front of the University of Bern, flanked by a bronze statue of the young Einstein.

NETCARE network: a Europe-wide collaboration in cancer research and education

We are delighted that our initiative, NeTwork for CAncer Research and Education (NETCARE), bringing together all ten ENLIGHT partner universities and encompassing over 150 cancer research teams, is being funded by ENLIGHT. The initiative strengthens joint efforts to further advance cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and patient care in Europe. It fosters collaboration among scientists, clinicians and educators to share expertise, cutting-edge research technologies and best practices. NETCARE promotes innovation, supports young researchers through exchange and training opportunities, and drives the development of new research programs and therapies. By connecting both emerging and established cancer centres, the network creates a dynamic ecosystem with the critical mass and diversity needed for impactful research and enriched education. NETCARE also prepares a new generation of scientists to tackle the future challenges of cancer.

Cooperation between Insel Group and PSI enables new quality standard for patients with eye tumours.

Optimising the treatment of eye tumours

The Insel Group and the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI are expanding their collaboration to provide faster and better coordinated access to proton therapy for patients with eye tumours. The two institutions have signed a new cooperation agreement, creating an integrated patient pathway that offers patients medically coordinated, high-precision treatment and improves the long-term quality of the care they receive.

The agreement combines the strengths of two leading institutions: PSI as one of the internationally most renowned centres for proton therapy and Inselspital, whose University Comprehensive Cancer Center Inselspital (UCI) plays a central role in ocular oncology throughout Switzerland.
