My life/work motto
Anything is possible if you really want it.
My research
My research focuses on genetic rhythm disorders, in which I investigate molecular determinants/modulators of individual risk for sudden cardiac death. As a cardiologist engaged in basic translational research and clinical practice, it is particularly important to me to integrate the mechanistic findings of my research into the personalized clinical treatment of patients.
My particular skills/experiences
Combination of clinical work with experimental and translational research. Scientific and clinical leadership role; spokesperson/core member of various international basic science working groups, member of program committees for international conferences.
My measures to promote diversity
Many years of experience as a mentor in mentee programs
My recommendations for young female researchers on the academic career path
Clinical work and experimental basic research can be combined - and enable wonderful translational approaches. Find a partner who is the same age or younger than you - this will prevent them from always being 1-2 career steps ahead of you and you automatically adapting your career to theirs. Avoid part-time employment.
