Equal Opportunities

Equal Opportunities Strategy

In its 2012 strategy, the University of Bern formulated the implementation of actual equality between women and men as one of its key priorities. The Intrafaculty Commission for Gender Equality (IFKG) supports the Faculty of Medicine in implementing these goals. It regards gender equality as an integral part of promoting excellence. The main objective of the IFKG is therefore to support gender equality together with the decision-makers in the institutes and clinics of the Faculty of Medicine. The aim is to create better conditions for more women to decide to take on responsibility in top positions. Among other things, the IFKG would like to show ways of reconciling career and family life.

Further information is available in the regulations listed below.

Mentoring4Women

Illustration bestehend aus den Profilen von 3 Frauen, jedes in einer anderen Farbe

Since 2012, the program has been supporting women who want to actively plan and advance their academic careers in a targeted manner. As part of a two-year one-to-one relationship, mentees have the opportunity to benefit personally from the professional experience of established mentors at the Faculty of Medicine. With this support, mentees can draw up an individual career plan, expand their network with valuable contacts from their mentor, and develop clear goals for their individual career path. Possible goals may include obtaining their own research funding or balancing their career with personal commitments. M4W works closely with the University of Bern's Equal Opportunities Office and established mentoring programs in other faculties at the University of Bern. This gives mentees access to a comprehensive network.

Have you already completed your habilitation and would like to use your wealth of experience to support young, motivated female doctors or scientists? If so, please contact our coordinator.
